#Tech’s Not Just Boys in Checkshirts

Tech is evolving and changing every day, and we’ve realised that there is still a lack of women in the Tech sector.
We aim to create inclusivity and accessibility in the tech sector by making women the pioneers of Tech.

We focus on building leadership within individual girls first, including self-confidence, personal accountability and long-term aspirations.
As part of each Cohort, you’ll be developing, telling & sharing stories on progressing Girls in Tech. Our program is designed to be future focused, enabling girls to hone their skills in research, community organising, goal setting, and effective communication and designed to help you grow professionally and personally.
And we know that this will increase confidence, create higher levels of civic participation, and give you a stronger conviction and ability to take action for global good.
You’ll build meaningful relationships, access changemakers and take advantage of our internships to find your place.

Information for Parents, Mentors & Changemakers

or the past few decades, tech has excluded many of us and women have made up less than 25 percent of the hires in over the past 20 years. That needs to change now if girls are to be part of an inclusive tech workforce. Tech is evolving. It’s no longer boys in Check shirts.

So our programme is led by young girls, we focus on building leadership within individual girls first, including self-confidence, personal accountability and long-term aspirations and we’ll steer it in the right direction to developing and honing in on their skills in research, community organising, goal setting, and effective communication and designed to help them grow professionally and personally.

As part of each Cohort, they’ll be part of a team leading on the issues of Girls in Tech and around access & inclusion. They’ll be developing our monthly Blogs on the progress towards improving access & inclusion for Girls in Tech, and connecting with Women Leaders in tech to share their stories on progressing Girls in Tech through our monthly Podcasts & webinars. Of course, we’ve designed our programme so they’ll build meaningful relationships, access changemakers and take advantage of our internships to find their own place. So whether this is to aid Professional Development by adding a new skill to their resume, or establish early Connections & Guidance by learning and connecting with other professionals or its about future placing for the Right Job, joining the Cohort will add much more value.

Cohort Programme Overview

Duration, Ages, Commitment & Graduation

Girls from the ages of 16 to 22 will form part of the Cohort through registration.
The duration for each Cohort, made up of a maximum of 15 young girls, will be 6 months long, with a Graduation ceremony held at Athalos HQ in Amsterdam (Graduates will pay their own way).

Graduates will then be eligible to move into either: the UN Global Compact YPP Programme, Athlaos Girl 2030 Mentoring Programme for the Next Cohort or Graduate into the Athalos Global Ambassador Programme.

Key activities and outputs for each Cohort

Our group of 15 girls will be a mixed batch of personalities, skills and attributes that will help to shape three core activities and will meet every fortnight via Zoom. The Cohort will collectively work on delivering three activities jointly but will form Sub Teams to Lead for each activity, enhancing existing skills and supporting their teammates in developing new ones. The Cohort will be led by the Cohort Chairperson.

1. A monthly Digital Blog, on 'Progressing Girls/Women in the Tech Sector' this will help establish a new baseline and inform policy
2. Monthly Digital In Conversations with leading Tech people - which will highlight the progress, opportunities, but also showcase that we are moving towards creating access and inclusion through these conversations.
3. Create Workplace opportunities for our Cohort - by asking the Panellists to commit that they in the short term can take a number of our Cohort on an internship 'A Day with' or a 'Week at' and then pledge to create an Internship programme for our Cohort over the longer term after our Cohort Graduate. And also ask them to consider creating a job opportunity for our Cohort (this may be after University or College) AND also engage local Charities and Businesses for placements and will form this as part of the Citizenship programme where possible.

Podcast

Welcome to our monthly Podcast series where we will be joined by leading Women in Tech.
We’ll be asking them about their journey and we’ll be hearing their stories.
We’ll be asking them What do they feel is the issue or challenge with the lack of access & inclusion of girls into the Tech Sector. What barriers to entry they faced and what has been their experience on the progress of women in Tech.

We’ll also be finding out what they are doing as a Company to step up the pace on progress.

Blog

Welcome to our monthly blog series of articles on the progression of inclusion & access of young women in the tech sector. The first article will establish the baseline of how things are at the moment, statistics from UN sources and Business institutes.
The following blogs will then chart the progress if there are any policies that are working, and which organisations are championing and demonstrating this.

Internships

We are thankful to our partners and supporters in providing early opportunities for our Cohorts to get into Tech.
Our Programme includes the following types of internships:

1. A week internship in a specific department during the school break
2. A day with the CEO and an opportunity to reflect on a day in the life of a CEO. The internship will include a component of communications in which the internees will write about that their experience
3. Regular internship during the school half terms over the course of the year.
4. The offer of employment or Entrepreneur support post Education
